Highway of Heroes Memorial Tribute
The Highway of Heroes Memorial Tribute is a rolling tribute that is dedicated to our fallen soldiers and their their families. First introduced to the public in March of 2009 and has been present at pretty much all repatriation ceremony since with the exception of the winter months when it is in storage. At first I did not quite realize what effect the car would have on people, but from that first trip to Toronto in March of 2009 and the people that would slow down while they were passing me to get a glimpse and a photo oppritunity, to that November day in Kingston Ontario when my wife and I were at a motel due to an illness in the family, we came out of our motel room to find 3 poppies laying on the trunk lid, it was then and there that I realized just what an impact this tribute has had on those who see it.
During the summer months we can be found at several events around Ontario and Quebec to raise awareness as to the sacrifice's that are made, and have been made. It is important that we remember our fallen soldiers and their families, but it is also important to remember those who have gone to Afghanistan, those who have been physically and mentally injured, these are the men and women that have to learn how to cope with their injuries, whether it be the loss of one or more limbs, PTSD, and the list goes on and on, and in several cases have lost a friend or co-worker that has had to travel along the Highway of Heroes.
